I have a 2000 Rodeo LSE, 3.2 V6, 4wd, 85k miles, orignal owner, see sig for mods.
Okay Im getting back into wheeling my Rodeo after a couple of offroad mishaps. 3 problems I can't figure out:
1. Rear Defroster: Only the top 1/3 of the window defrosts.
2. When parked on my driveway (inclined, but nothing crazy) The fuel guage drops all the way down and the fuel light flashes. This will happen with the tank over 3/4 full. No fuel leaks out and the guage will return once the truck is level.
3. Overheating: When in traffic regardless of outside temp. During hot weather anytime I drive more than 30 mins regardless of speed. I had my radiator flushed and thermostat checked but the problem still remains.
The Rodeo was just at the dealership and they didn't notice anything w/ their safety inspection.
Any help would be great!
Thanks, Ashby

Thanks, Ashby 1. You have some broken defroster elements. If your rear window is tinted you may be SOL. If not there is stuff that you essentially paint on over the broken section. You should be a ble to use a DMM to fins where the breaks are (unless you have tint over them). 2. Bad fuel level sending unit. Very common in 2nd Gen Rodeos. 3. Sounds like a bad fan clutch.

3. Sounds like a bad fan clutch. That all sounds like it could be the issues. 1. My windows are tinted. What now? 2. Any way to test for that? 3. There are two fans one large one after the radiator and a smaller on before positioned to the left side. Where is the fan clutch and which fan would it effect? Thanks alot! Ashby

hey i got 2 cents for ya, for checking the defroster. its tedious but use a razor blade to cut the tint off just over the elements and peal off the little strip so you can expose the elements and test them, and the fans .. the big one behind the radiator is your main fan for the radiator the smaller one in front of the radiator is for your AC system, im not sure how the dohc is but on the sohc when your timming belt starts to stretch or your tentioner gets week, the water pump starts to slip and not work, or if you got any oil on that belt some how it will slip on the water pump, something to check, when its overheating, is the heater still blowing hot air? if its not then your coolant isnt moving through the radiator or the heater core and your water pump isnt working for what ever reason

I'd say your tint shop needs to fix your defroster for you. I'm guessing yours did the same thing mine did. I just didn't realize it till winter time and didn't put 2 and 2 together for quite some time.
I took it back and they were more than happy to fix it for me.

Joe Its been tinted for 5 years now and the problem only recently started. It could be a result of the tint, but since its worked so long, I don't feel right asking them to fix it. Thanks.

You can take it to them to have them remove the existing tint, then fix it yourself, then take it back to have it retinted. Or have them fix it when they take the tint off.
Dont know how much that would cost but shouldnt be too much.
I had 5 lines out on mine before I had it tinted and fixed them before taking it in. For some reason one didnt get fixed right and still didnt work. Just in the last week or so I noticed another one isnt working. Not bad enough for me to redo the tint yet though.

Okay.. Looks like Im going to head over to a local tint shop since I've moved away from where I had it originally tinted.
Anyone have an idea of how much it costs to fix defroster lines?

dude you can totally fix this yourself <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
my tint has been bashed all to hell from the inside and still looks great from the out.
if you make little slits that are cut alongside the broken section of the defroster it will never show up...
find the broken spots by looking ay and following each line on the window and go buy the $5 fix it kit and go at it.
it may actually be quite therapeutic! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
