Getting the Wheeling Fever
So i went to four different metal suppliers today looking for some 2.5x2.5x(3/16 or bigger) to make some spring perches/pads. All of them said that it was rare they ever get that size and i would have to special order some but the only problem is i dont need 20 ft of it and they cant just order me a 2 foot piece so its 20 ft or nothing. Todays plans were foiled <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" />

I use 2-1/2" sqaure 1/4" wall tubing for mine, makes a perfect fit:

exactly what i was looking for but all the metal shops didnt have any 2 1/2 sqaure anything...all that was there was 2" and 3"....all four of the shops said they dont carry that and id have to special order in 20 ft lengths although i have some 1/4 inch plate around some where Im going to try some more metal shops in the bay area see what they got....if not 1/4 plate is what im going to have to work with...

One place to try would be a trailer supply place. Hitch receiver tube is just the right size and they usually sell in short lengths. If you can't find any, I can probably cut off a short length of what I have.

2.5x2.5 should not be that hard to find. And Receiver tubing isn't the same either- the interior weld seam has been removed and its got a slightly larger than 2" ID to fit 2" OD tubing easily, and it is usually quite a bit more expensive (but works the same if that's what you happen to have).

If you happen to be near Sacramento, S&K Steel is a great place to buy small chunks of whatever you want, but it doesn't sound like you're in the area...
