I have been readin alot latley that a simple mod people are doing is a rear U-bolt flip. Im confused as to what is gained from this. the only thing i could think is that the lower shock mount is locatedslighlty higher leaving more travel in teh shock. If anyone has done this or knows any pros/cons...lemmi know thanks

Not dragging the threaded ends, bending the open end, scarring the nuts (the u-bolt nuts ), a little more ground clearance and not having a rock anchor mounting plate hanging under the axle. Good stuff.
Con? Maybe a little more axle tube is exposed?

I had been thinking about this one recently as well. Seems like a pretty good idea but my only caution is in how rough it will be to get the old u-bolts off. Plus I have seen the flip kit for $68, what is up with that? How tough is it, do you pretty much only have to disconnect the old and put on the new flipped or is it more involved?

I recently changed out my leaf springs (one was broken). All I did for a couple of days was spray WD-40, or something similar, on it. After a couple of days it came off really good! And a little cheater bar always helps Good luck on what you choose to do

What are the best kits that are out there? Also, you have to move the shock mounts(?), how involved is that going to be as far as maintaining the old upper mounts and rear shocks?

well since the lower shock mount is connected to the plate under the axle, in theory if u flip that to the top of the axle, u would be shortening the length that the shock sits at leaving more travel in the shock once the axle does start to flex. alsso ur changing the angle of the shock, ive herd this make the ride a little stiffer. It just seems like a popular, cheap mod but i just dont get if its worth it. guess ill hafta see for my self. Thanks guys

I haven't seen a kit that provides a lower shock mount on the top of the axle. If one did, the flip would be a pretty easy mod. Like AzRain noted above, unless you're worried about dragging it across rocks, or it's causing problems, it's not worth the shock relocation issues (in my opinion).

I agree with Mark...only way to benefit from this is if you plan on relocating the lower and upper shock mount as well...

Would going to a / \ shock setup after the u-bolt flip basically consist of a fabbed crossmember with mounts for the upper and welded on mounts for the axle? This is oversimplifying but am just curious what it would take. Any god writeups on going to a / \ rear shock setup, i couldnt find anything?

1.5" tubing welded inside frame rail with some plating at the ends to distribute the load across the frame surface, 1/2" ID tube for the upper mounts welded through the tubing, lower mounts i would just order some prefabbed shock tabs, weld those on top of housing, w/ ubolt flip youll have to do some kind of custom bumpe stop...
Issues youll run into is all the brake lines with proportion valve is right there in the way on inside frame rail...
