Hey folks,
I'm close to getting a Pajero and was wondering about insurance. Is getting insurance on a diesel import more difficult than any other vehicle in your experience?
I'm currently with Meloche Monnex- anyone have a Panjero insured through them?

Used to use RBC Insurance. Waited a week for them to get me a quote (they didn't like my chassis number, since their system used only 17 digit vins and thus they had to go to their adjustors). While I was waiting I went to AMA, and walked out that afternoon with my proof of coverage...
Is the CGY in your name Calgary? There are quite a few of us here now, and I'm still looking for a show n shine of some sort... pm me if you're interested...

Spoke with Meloche Monnex today and it didn't sound too difficult. Although I will need an appraisal if I want anything more than liability coverage which is probably common practice.
I am in Calgary - should have my new toy in early-mid January. Would be interested in seeing others if there is a get together.

I have mine insured as a 1991 montero...that way I could get more than just PLPD. I have collision and the whole shibang, costs me $88.00/month and that includes fire/theft on 2 other vehicles. I am only 21 though so my insurance is still semi-high

In Ontario you get hosed for insurance. I was paying 80 bucks a month 6 years ago for minimum coverage.

I called my broker (Morgex) and got a quote in minutes. I asked for a 1992 Montero though, since the 91 was the Gen1 in the US. The quote was pending an appraisal as well, which is free.

who cares if the 1991 is a gen 1 in the USA. if your gets smashed does that mean they have to somehow mount Gen 1 parts on your truck??? it doesn't make a difference so I suggest just telling them its a 1991

It would matter as far as calculating a replacement value. The Gen2 style is worth more. Could be the difference of a grand or two in the case of a write-off. Depends on the insurance company, and how they value the truck. Mine requires an appraisal, so the year/generation of the truck might matter less.
It's been my experience that the better the info you give your insurance company, the better off you will be if anything happens.

Hey Guys quick question, I've just moved from BC and am wondering if I will need a Alberta drivers license to insure a vehicle, or at the very least let me day permit for a couple of days for inspection, in AB

Not sure on the registration and licenceing, but your home province usually gives you time under your old insurance and registration before you must switch. I know Saskatchewan gives 90 days.
