Need a Spot
Hi everybody, just picked up a 2001 Jeep Wrangler Sport today, and I'm loving every minute of it! Have a couple of oddities though, as I do not have an owners manual and I've noticed a few things. First of all, it has a hardtop and a soundbar. I've noticed that the dome light does not always come on. Sometimes, if I fool with the key in the right position, and I open the door, it comes on. But most of the time, it does not. This is a pain when it's dark and you open the door to get in your Jeep and there is no light!

Also, I've noticed a strange behaviour when I start it up- I put in the key, turn it, (which sounds the fasten seatbelt buzzer) start the vehicle, and fasten my seatbelt. About two seconds later, the "check gauges" flashes real quick on the dash followed by two really quick beeps. What gives with that? Anything I need to worry about?

Thanks for the help folks.

Brendan

If only ONE door does the light thing then look to that door switch.
I never saw a check light that meant anything go off at start! They always stay lit if they really mean to check the engine.

my 98 tj won't even light up my 4 wheel selector lights on the dashboard anymore - as usual, BigJim is right - if it doesn't stay on, don't worry about it

those switches that flip on the cabin light (i assume its a part of the soundbar, like mine) when you open the door are fussy in TJs - i got so frustrated with the one on my passenger side door that i just took it out, haha

I have learned to live with not having any interior lights in my '98 TJ, since I don't run doors in the summer, I removed the door switches. Not very handy, but since it's a soft-top, it never had a dome light anyway...
OT: You live in Mt. Vernon? How far is it from Columbus? I have to go there for a job (field service technician) on Wednesday @ Jeld-Wen.

Ok, update to the situation. It does not seem to work with either door open, ever. If I manually turn the dome light on, it works fine. It also lights up for a few seconds after I shut the Jeep off, but does not stay lit and will not stay lit if I have either door open. Strange!?

Yeah, Mt. Vernon is about an hour from Columbus. Columbus is about the only place to go around here for anything to do. :P
