'93 Trooper SOHC vs DOHC #772915 12/17/06 05:06 PM

Our '93 Trooper has a bad engine. I can not find a Japanese replacement other than the DOHC. Anyone swapped the SOHC with the DOHC - and can you tell us if there were any unanticipated technical problems with the swap? Also, anyone have a clean SOHC 3.2L? Source for a SOHC that you can "vouch for"?

Yes, you can use a early model DOHC, but you will have to use
the intake system from the SOHC engine.
That is what I have in my '95.. it's a DOHC with a SOHC intake
and it runs great. It's 190hp vs. 175 SOHC engine and it has
the low end torque that the DOHC doesn't normally have.

You will also have to use the ignition system, wiring harness,
and exhaust manifolds from your SOHC. The EGR is in a different place on the DOHC, so to mate it up with the SOHC, you have to use the SOHC exhaust manifolds.

You'll use the airbox and throttle cable from your existing
SOHC also.

Other than that, everything pretty much lines right up and
goes in without a hitch.

Here's a pic of my DOHC in my SOHC truck.

I don't recall the torque number, but the hp is 15 higher on the DOHC. (190 vs. 175)

Body Damage is Cool
NOPE , WONT WORK ON THE 96-97 ENGS, CRANK TRIGGERING SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY DIFF, THIS ONE JUST HAPPENS TO BE A RELATIVILY EASY CONVERSION, JERRY
