I have a 99 Rodeo LE 4x4 with 142000 km's . I was at my Canadian Isuzu dealer for an oil change and was informed that Isuzu is now suggesting putting in 15w40 oil in Rodeo's because of the problem with excessive oil consumption when they get older. Has anyone else come across this yet?

Hmm. Wouldn't that make cold start-ups even tougher on a motor?

Do you really have "excessive oil consumption" ?

Do you really have "excessive oil consumption" ? Ditto. What's "excessive" in this case? Richard

excessive oil consumtion is when the amount of the oil consumed is more than the amount of the consumed gas 15W-40 affair is pretty strange. How How oil with hight viscosivy can affect the consumption ? I do not think so. As for evaporation, a good synthetic 5W-30 has meager evaporation and stability, better than most cheap 15W-40s. Also, dense oil is more difficult for the oil rings.

It will make it harder to start so i would think it would have to be plugged in when it gets cold.

I have to keep track of the consumption but it seems to me that im putting in half a litre of oil every 2-3 weeks and im guessing that i put on less than 1500km in a month. What other things might cause oil consumption? I know when these get old they start using oil. I think the dealer was saying 1 litre of oil in 1500km's is excessive.

Usualy your either burning oil or leaking oil , the oil has to go somewhere.Look for oil spots under the truck and see if you have a leak somewhere , it could be your oil pan gasket , oil drain plug(I had mine changed on my old truck) , or even the main seal.If its burning a lot , then your rings are probably leaking a little more than they should. Also check your valve cover gaskets and see if its leaking up there , as sometimes it won't make it far enough to see a leak.
