Getting the Wheeling Fever
I was just wondering If a rear locker for my 1986 trooper will fit on the front too... Locker
This one is the one I'm thinking of getting, just was wondering if it would fit on the front.. I haven't really heard much about this brand..
I would prefer a Detroit locker, so if anyone can point me in the right direction, that would be great.
Thanks,
Matt

IIRC, you should have a ISUZU 10 bolt in the rear and an ISUZU 8 bolt in the front. So, no, you couldn't put a locker for your rear in the front because they're different axles. But here's what worries me even more ... Chrysler 8.25 in. That's what they claim the rear axle is. It isn't. That's an ISUZU axle, not a Chrysler axle.

That is the Powertrax part number for the Isuzu 10-bolt, but AFAIK it has been out of production for a long time. I'm guessing they won't be able to get you one. Can't hurt to ask though.

Failing that, there is a chance an Aussie locker will be available soon...

OK, Thanks
I did notice it said a Chrysler axle, but wasn't sure if mine was old enough not to have the Chrysler axle, So I guess I just learned somethin ...
It will be awhile before I get one, so maybe by then the Aussie locker will be available, and I can get one ..
Lockers are just on my list of things to get, so I'm just getting information, before I buy the wrong one..
Thanks again,
Matt

AFAIK, the only axles under Isuzus are either Isuzu Corporate, Dana 44, or GM 10 bolt. At least for the "true" Isuzus. Now those rebadged ones, I'm not sure but seeing as how they're rebadged Chevys, but I'm pretty sure they're a GM axle.

So how do I find out which axle I have???
Are there markings on it any where, that I can tell what axle I have??
Thanks for the help,
Matt

Unless someone has changed it, you have the 10-bolt rear and 8-bolt front. The 12-bolt didn't appear until '88.

The nice thing is, if/when the 10 bolt locker comes back into production you can bolt an 88-91 Trooper 10 bolt front into your rig and run locked 10 bolts f/r. My friend Karl took my old IFS parts from an 89 Trooper I SAS'd and bolted it into his 87 that had the 8 bolt front, now he's running one of the rare 10 bolt lockrights in it.

I believe the Chrysler listing is incorrect in that ad. IF you look up Chrysler axles in the Powertrax application guide, that is not the part number that comes up.
