I know from my experience with my 2000 4Runner that there are ways to change the "programmed" modes for the truck to do certain things differently, like auto-lock the doors when you turn on the engine, or auto-unlock the doors when you turn it off, or briefly beep the horn when you lock it with the remote, etc.

Is there any method to change the auto door lock/unlock features on a 2007 double cab Tacoma? My wife and I would both prefer that the doors auto-lock when the engine is turned on, just like our 4Runner does from the factory, but it can be changed by the user. Are there any hidden programmable methods that anyone knows about for the 2007's (whether for door locks or not)?

Thanks and Merry Christmas

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, never really noticed the locks not engaging under power... Personally I like the idea. I have a friend that is a car audio guru in PHX, maybe he knows something.

You didn't happen to get the manuals yet, did you? Maybe, just maybe the answer is in there. I'll wait until the 3/36 is up to buy the full on documents.

Happy Holidays to you as well and all of our Tacoma forum members.

It didn't work on my 2007 Tacoma. I recognize those directions as ones I saw years ago that would work on the 2000 vehicles. The web site lists that it's good for 2000-2005 Tacomas. It didn't do anything to my 2007.

To do this properly you will need a toyota scan tool from a dealer. I just had a customer come in the other day with an 04 4Runner and with the scan tool we selected which locking features we wanted on and off. It took less than 5 minutes to complete. You might try stopping by your dealer and asking them to do it. It is so quick there shouldn't be a charge, but like anything else, ask if it is possible and they should oblige.

What if you have an aftermarket alarm/remote starter ? Can the dealer still program the doors to auto lock ? Do they hook the scan tool to the obdII port or something ? Would love to have my 05 auto lock the doors

With an aftermarket starter/alarm they may be able to program the lock features. When we install an aftermarket remote starter the remote starter door lock/unlock feature is connected so it will work when the car has been started remotely. You can walk up to the remotely started car while it is running and use the aftermarket fob to unlock the doors. After you press the button to turn off the engine with the aftermarket fob, then you can use the Toyota remote that came with the vehicle. Lock and unlock the doors with the Toyota remote with the engine off.

So, we program the systems so they operate independently and when one is engaged the other will be off. It becomes complicated with 2 remotes. If you are only using an aftermarket fob then it will be much simpler.

I only use my compustar remote. I have the compustar 2wfmr. The factory fob is put away in a drawer. I had a company outside the dealer install the remote starter/alarm. I only want to use one fob. I tried to program it from the link above and it didn't work at all. Tried it three times. I'm going to call the company before the dealer to see if they can do it. Thanks for everyones help
