Just installed a set of gears in the rear of my truck... Is 1 tooth enough to cause binding in 4x4? the ones i put in were 10/39 and the ones in the front are 10/40 or something along that line

3.90/4.10...yes it will bind. Your allowed 2% difference front and rear. I'm having a brain fart right now, and cant remember how to calculate the difference...but I'm sure its more than 2%

thought so .... wish i knew who helped themself to my 3 spares of 4:10 3rd's... guess ill have to go out to the shed that is barred under a foot of snow and see what the 88 rear end has in it... this is starting to suck... Iv changed the rear so many times im loosing track.. changed because it was squeaking found out it was the u joint not the 3rd, blew that rear changed to what i though was a 4:10... found that wasent a 4:10 and pulled and realized that i had no more 4:10's and put the 3:90 in hopping it would be close enough. nop now i need to find another 4:10.. well the good thing is that the nuts never have time to seaze up ..hehe

3.9/4.1 should still work in slippery conditions such as snow or mud if there is an emergency. Just be careful.
