NGK or Denso (OEM) plugs and OEM wires work just fine.

I second that.
Nobody here thinks much of the Bosch Plat plugs.
Wires on sale at Autozone?
The Denso (oem) wires have proven excellent.
You can take your chances with whatever but for my $ I will go Denso.

Bosch platinums run a little on the hot side. NGK is the plug of choice. I use Denso wires on my stuff.

Auto-Zone sells the Bosch "mag core" wires for about $35. These are a good wire and they will not wear out like OE unless you physically abuse them. The only OE part I wont consider buying is Plug wires because fiberglass just isn't a good conductor. Schucks/Kragen sells their Borg/warner Nascar wires which are just re-badged Bosch "mag cores" but they come with a lifetime warranty for like $25. You may just want to head to your favorite parts house with an ohm meter and start checking resistance till you find a good brand. You will get the best spark performance with a spiral wound wire as opposed to the fiberglass coated with carbon type.

If you are considering replacing your cap and rotor I would suggest buying something of good quality. OE is good for cap and rotor as is "Standard motor" products, I think Napa sells some high quality units as well. Most mass market parts houses will stare at you funny when you specify a brand for a cap and rotor but don't let them sell you the cheap junk. If you have a Carquest around I would point out that all of the Carquest brand cap and rotors are indeed "Standard Motor" Products. Last time I bought a cap and rotor for my 3.0 I think the price difference between el-cheapo Auto-Zone junk and "Standard motor" was like $4-5 on the cap and $2 on the rotor. Its well worth the extra money.

What is the max resistance to look for in a good wire for this motor?

The lower the better provided you are using a quality spiral wound wire. The best wires I have tested are the MSD wires at 30-40 Ohms per foot ($$$ though). The worst wires I have tested are used OE wires @15k+. Ohms per foot. The major difference between the 2 types of wire is that OE wires will wear out electrically. Over time the carbon thats coating the fiberglass on an OE wire will burn off leaving just fiberglass to act as a conductor. The spiral wound wires have no such carbon or any other substance to burn off therefor their resistance will change very minimally if any at all. The only possible down side to using a lower resistance wire is that you can potentially get a little AM radio noise but thats pretty unlikely unless your running an MSD or Jacobs Type ignition. The resistance measurement thing kinda goes out the window when you start into off brand junk that may use less than ideal materials even on a spiral wire.

I remember back when I was younger doing work on my vehicles. I would hook up a timing light and there where times that it was very difficult to get an inductive light to fire. Back then I thought it may be the vehicle missing or something but I soon figured it out. If your plug wire has too much resistance (older used OE wire) then you will not get a large enough pulse of current to trigger the inductive pickup on the timing light. Its pretty simple really, plug wires do 1 thing and thats conduct electricity. You need to buy what ever wire does that the best.

OEM are really well made. The Borg-Warner "metal conductor", lifetime warranty wires I tried were junk, connectors detached and fell-off during normal handling; also the lengths were wrong, but useable. My OEM wires were still in spec as far as resistance goes after 5 years and 30K miles. Just my observation.
