Getting the Wheeling Fever
Howdy y'all!

Here goes my rant over a 1993 Montero 3.0L 6G72 w/ approx 60K mi. swapped engine

Yesterday morning, before taking off, I decided to add 1 qt. of engine oil, since the day before I checked the level.

I twisted off the oil cap with the engine on (recently started), and saw a hint of white smoke coming from the oil opening, which I had seen many times before. When I poured in the oil, the new oil JUST SHOT UP INTO THE AIR. I'd never seen this happen! Is this normal?

I started thinking out my options:

1. Has the PCV valve died?
2. Piston rings starting to go? (haven't run a compression test)
3. Is this normal on a cold engine? (Piston rings haven't expanded yet, causing some normal blowback?)
4. This is normal lubrication system pressurizing in a cold engine...

Please, tell me nothing is wrong! I haven't had a loss in power, or oil leakage thru any gasket. She's running GREAT for the first time in years!!

You added oil with the engine running?

The crankcase AND rocker area in a running engine has constant pressure waves flying around in there, caused by the bottom of the pistons. You can put the palm of your hand over the open fill hole and feel the pulse. Never put oil in a running engine if you can help it unless you just want to add rust protection to all the underhood metal...
