Getting the Wheeling Fever
Found a great deal on camper shell yesterday. It came off a Tundra but fits good.

Just need to figure how to hook up the third brake light on the back. There is a wire harness for it , but it is broken off with about 5 feet wire left on it. The Tundra was not there- ( wrecked).
The guy I bought it from said the thrid light on the back of the Tundra cab had been disconected ( or did not work), that's all he knows about it.

I have an ARE cap on the back of my t, the wires are rundown to the back left of the truck and patched into the back left taillight brake wire. The light on the back of the cab is turned off, (it is quite possible that the bulb simply was removed)

You might be able to call the cap manufacturer and ask them too.. The extra weight on the back makes the truck handle way nicer, especially when it is wet/ snowy out.

I have a different brand topper, but the thrid brake light is patched into the truck's tailight wiring also.

Do you guys know if it is patched in with a connector or is it just spliced into a hot wire?

I don't care much for cutting and splicing wires that are exposed to elements like that if I can avoid it.

I had to cut and splice my ARE cap's light. I soldered and shrink wrapped it too.

You might be able to use something like this
http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product/10001/-1/10001/34407/10001/125/124/9
They ship these with Hella light kits and make wiring easier

Radio shack has them too

I am familiar with those. I got familiar with them when trying to track down an open circuit. They have aluminum spades that cut through the insulation of the wire to make contact. It is imprecise and over time the dissimilar metals cause corrosion and lose a good connection- especially when the splice is exposed such as a trailer connection or under the bed.

I agree; those connectors suck for the reasons mentioned. I've removed a LOT of them out of harnesses for tow packages and simply soldered stuff back together.

If you want to be able to pull the topper off now and then, I found some ball splice terminals at NAPA; they're similar to the pins you see in a flat 4-wire connector for tow packages.

When wiring up my brake light, i used a connector from Shadio Rack like this:
