Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster.
Is it normal to hear clicking from the engine on the driver side of the motor? This is the side that has the direct ignition. This is on a 94 SR with the 3.5 ltr motor and an auto.
thanks for the help, chris

Welcome, happy new years!
That's probably your valves, I have a bad valve tick as well.. but it always goes away when I am off camber to the passenger's side.. (94 SR as well)
It's common for the hydrolic lash adjusters to do this when they are clogged or have air in the system. There is a procedure for getting the air out either in the Projects section, or in the Archive, I forget where.
Drive on, Brendan
Oh yea.. post a picture!
and I have one other quick question.. where did you get your JDM engine from and was it expensive? I am looking to either full rebuild or buy JDM.. will end up being the same cost, but the cheaper I can find a JDM block I can use the more I will be inclined to go that route

Hey thanks, Happy New Year to you as well.
I never thought of air being in the system. I did just change the oil. I think I will try the lifter fix. Is easy enough to try.
The JDM engine was 1,400 from a place in so cal. I can't remember the name right now, but I can look them up if you want to go that route. I looked around and places wanted about 2,500 to 4,000 for a rebuilt. The engine was a 3.5 quad cam, but it was out of some front wheel drive car or something. The engine had to be stripped down to the block and heads and built back up with the original stuff from the old engine.
I don't have any pics of the truck i will have to snap one.
thanks for the help Chris

Welcome to the forum! It is the general concensus that changing the oil regularly using a good quality oil & oil filter tends to reduce or eliminate the lifter ticking that you're hearing. I've had good luck with the Pure One filter from Purolator and use them on all my vehicles, but others on this forum have their preferences also. Avoid Fram filters no matter what. Hope this helps.
