Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hi - I looked in previous posts, but could get a definitive answer. I'm looking for what rotors to install on my '99. I've got 120K, and the aftermarket rotors my mechanic put on are warped. I'm going to use the Autozone performance friction pads - I've had good luck with them in the past. Autozone carries a "Duralast" brand rotors w/ 2 year warranty, and another brand I wasn't familar with. I'm not looking to invest heavily (no slotted rotors), just looking for best available off the shelf. Input welcome & appreciated.

Roll Me Over
spend a little, get the brembo cross drilled ones.

history:

my 90 4runner would warp on a consistent basis. almost 8-10 months after its last "rotor turning", it would start the vibrations through the steering wheel syndrome.

after like 2 OEM rotor swaps (and numerous rotor turnings), the rotors couldnt be turned anymore due to being too thin now.

so i remember all of those ads in the car of CAR&DRIVER and stuff and all of the cross drilled ads.

i bought a pair of genuine cross drilled (get the ones with holes CAST instead of brembo blanks and then drilling the holes AFTERWARDS).

under $200 for the pair, iirc. this was late 90s.

but now, i havent had a need to turn the rotors! havent had the vibrations...

been through 3-4 sets of pads, 1 set of calipers. still, the brembos look cool...

Thanks. I had heard about the brembos. On a previous runner I had, I had installed the Power Slot rotors with the Perf Friction pads. This combo gave great stopping power. I'd go with the Power Slots again, but I'm really on a budget.

Do you remember where you purchased the brembos, or can you advise on best place to get them?

I will be needing to get rotors soon myself. I read that "slots are better than holes." Something about mud/rocks/debris getting stuck in the holes and not getting out (and that somehow slots are not as susceptible to this?)

OK, so I found a set of "cross-drilled" rotors on e-bay for 130+shipping. The seller is dealer from Canada (might even be the same dude you bought from). Anyway, it turns out they ARE Italian Brembos, but drilled after the fact, and NOT by Brembo. The seller says he's sold this type for 8 years, and never an issue, and will warranty for 6 months. Of course, I already agreed to buy them, but I think he also carries blank Brembos.

What should do? Stay with the cross-drilled, or switch to blanks? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I'm having problems with installing the rotors. Anyone with experience - please help. I appreciate it. One more thing - how do you take off the big Bolt holding the discs together? Couldn't get it off. Thanks!
