Getting the Wheeling Fever
What is up with these things? This is the 3rd one I'm having to put in since May 2006. Is this a common occurrence? Is there something I can do to prevent having to shell out $100 every 3 months?

Thanks!

Well, if you are replacing them for $100 each time, it sounds
like you are using an aftermarket local parts store re-manufactured units.
If that is the case, there is a reason that the parts store
reman's are $100 and the factory replacements are a couple of hundred bucks.

I think your grip is probably with the el-cheapo reman's
that the parts stores sell.

Spend a little extra money, buy a factory alternator or
a quality aftermarket alternator and you probably
will greatly increase the MTBF.

All that is providing your electrical system is in good shape and has no problems.

Id love to see those things get mounted higher. What a flawed design on isuzu's part.

Yup, this is about par for the course... or you can keep out of the mud/water!

Most part stores offering reman'd alternators give you a limit lifetime warrenty (ie, a single replacement throughout its life)... so, take advantage of this and you'll only be paying $100 for every other one.

Body Damage is Cool
I've wheeled mine hard now for 11 years in Mud, Silt, and water. Still have the original alternator with nearly 190,000 miles on it. Buy a new, not rebuilt alt. I'd as well check your entire charging system for possible faults.

It would probably be a bad omen for me to go out and buy one of the remaned ones as a trail spare huh. I would be certain to have them both break at that point. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Until I can afford a new one, I'll get the ones with a 6 month warranty (limited lifetime) and then it won't be so bad.

Thanks all!!
