....ever jacked their Gen1 Raider/Montero up to be able to tuck in some 38.5 swampers? I suppose a major suspension and body lift would be needed with a Chevy motor driving them.
Only reason I ask is that there is a set of 38s for sale locally and they just look so nasty!!

you don't need to change the engine, it is much easier to re-gear the diffs and transfer case and get just as much torque to turn larger tires. probably cheaper too!

I suppose that is a viable option, but I think the spacing would be an issue. Anything is possible with a sawzall I guess!

Someone has, there was a pic of a yellow one a year back on 38s.
I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

Given a sawzall and some responsible trimming, you could potentially fit 38's on a SWB, but you'd be using low range all the time. My 2.6l has difficulty in a headwind with all my junk on board and 33's. I'm imagining you'd have to trim out most of the rear fenderwell, lose some of the passenger compartment in front and headlights, too!
Definitelt a soild axle swap possibility, but unlikely with the IFS and anything close to legal to drive.

Yeah you could go trail buggy, full time 4low There are so many local guys around here with their barely road legal Suzuki buggies with their little motors driving 38s. If these little mosquito looking 4x4s can do it, then so should a Raider!!

You're gonna need 300 hp to turn 38s with any seriousness.
