I looked at the link for the fuel injection. wow that seems like a lot of money for fuel injection'Is it really that much better? What makes it that much more desirable.Would it be easier to swap a whole efi motor out of a newer truck? They want more for that kit than I paid for my truck.

oh what a feeling:

it means i had the transmission in neutral when i tried it. putting it into gear made the wheels rotate in opposite directions. so it is open.

as for that particular fuel injection... they seem to be the only ones offering a complete turn key kit. fuel injection verses carburetor... i live in texas and this truck will be making several trips per year to 7000+ feet. i do not want to have to tinker with jetting or even the remote possibility of it flooding in high altitude while trying to start it in the cold. i am not married to affordable fuel injection. i would consider another setup that uses the GM throttle body, but i would prefer to purchase all of the pieces needed (throttle body, wiring harness, adapter plate to intake manifold, fuel pump, sensors etc...) from one place so when i install this i know they were all put together to work together. if there is someone out there doing this for the early trucks using megasquirt and the GM throttle body with the correct injectors and adapter plate to mount it to the early factory intake manifold, could you please send me a link? i will definitely look at them.

You could always go propane injection, thats the route im thinking of taking. Check it out at gotpropane.com ,its about 900 bucks minus the tank. The plus side is no computer and only one hot wire for the whole hookup. Good luck!!

now THAT is cool! i am really interested in this, but since this is going to be a street truck i am wondering if it is practical? how will it perform on a 100+ degree texas day with the a/c on sitting in traffic? how do you tell how much propane is left in your tanks?

The propane tanks over here have little gauges on the tanks themselves. You can also get cab mounted gauges or have the propane tank wired up to your fuel gauge.

From what I hear, propane isn't as popular in the states as it is over here in Oz. My wifes DD is a 1989 Ford Fairlane on propane (we call it LPG or just gas over here). My DD is a 1991 Ford Falcon (no LPG) with the same motor etc and it's roughly twice the price to run around in than the fairlane. Propane over here atm is around 55 cents a litre compared to $1.30 a litre for petrol. Theres no power loss on propane compared to just straight fuel that we can notice between the 2.

So we get the luxury/space of a large 6 cylinder car that costs around the same as a 4cyl to drive around in.

Sorry... didn't mean to be a post theif... just adding my 2 cents on propane
