It's finally snowing here and the roads are lightly glazed with winters treat. On the way home from work about to stop for a red light, I press the brake pedal like I always do and for no reason, The front Right locks up and then in the blink of an eye the left on does it. Squaking and sending my truck in two different directions.
After getting home, I drove around town and at Every stop sign it's doing it now! Some are "Gentle" haults while others are head meets steering wheel.
The rotors are clear of Debris, mild play in brake pedal, fluids good, no mud in tire area Or rotors.
What the hecks going on?

I've had discs lock up both when the pads are worn quite a way down. I think this lets the pistons come out farther and they can get cocked in their bores and stick. Or the seals/pistons could be sticking for whatever reason, like corrosion, etc.

hmm...see it's weird though because at first it slows down fine (Mild choppy feeling in the pedal) then all the sudden they just seize up for a second. I've been having an ongoing problem with my whole rear axle/brakes/gears. Maybe i'll pay some one to rip my axle out and build me a new one w/ discs and all new lines.
I am stumped. I will however jack the front up tomorrow and check the calipers (Front right is Brand spankin new...) and pads and rotors. This couldnt be a brake booster malfunction could it?

When mine did that it was the same, normal braking then all of a sudden it would lock up and stay locked for a while even after releasing the pedal pressure. The "choppy" pedal doesn't sound normal to me.

If it were a rear axle issue locking up the rear brakes, you'd be spinning out (not fun).

I would agree that sticky pistons in calipers can cause funky issues like this where the brakes will vary between sticking and not sticking, sometimes locking up on one side, sometimes not.

lol, yea ive already spun out once due to rear brake issues <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> not fun on a 2 way bridge going sideways into oncoming traffic.
Update on the brakes, It hasnt done it Once. I don't understand it. It's not as cold as it was last night...

I am stumped, but now it's not the brakes that are giving me trouble, now it's the whole thing! Major air rush sounds occuring in not only the radiator but heater hoses again. And has a mild 100-300rpm revving up and down range again. Use to do this to me when I first bought it, and was a broken headgasket. There are no signs of that being the problem again *knock on wood* could this be vacuum related?

I don't know the previous history of your headgasket issue, but I can offer some suggestions for the new issues. Regarding hearing coolant/air gurgling in the dash and heater hoses, the coolant is likely low. If the engine is missing/blowing sweet smelling exhaust, it could be another headgasket. The engine is NOT running rough, there's a chance there's an external leak (or the cooling system wasn't burped sufficiently to begin with). The up/down/up/down idle issue--is this occurring only at idle and when you step on the brakes? Or, is occuring at idle even if not stepping on the brakes? If the coolant is low enough and the coolant temp sensor on the intake has an air pocket around it, it will cause the idle to do this. If coolant is full, and the idle issue only happens when stepping on the brakes, it is becuase hot idle speed is too high (either because the idle adjustment screw is set too high or something else is affecting idle speed).

Either way, check your coolant immediately. You don't want to risk overheating.
