I've got a 1990 Trooper the fan is fine just runs on one speed. I've searched just can't find the resistor.

It's probably screwed into the air ducting under the dash near the evaporator area. I haven't had a chance to look myself, but that's where it was on my 89 Pickup.

Thanks, found it on the drivers side. I got to thinking, usually when a resistor goes out don't you have dead spots in fan switch? Mine runs in low no matter what position you set it on. Should I be looking for something else?

Not necessarily. In my pickup, I lost the 2 lowest speeds. Others have lost everything but high. High should remain because that's direct 12V and doesn't go through the resistor.

I would definatly say that high is not the speed its running at.

It's not one resistor... the resistor pack contains 3 resistors connected in series with taps for each fan speed. High speed bypasses all three resistor which is why the fan only runs in that speed when one fails. In your case it sounds like the actual switch may be bad since you say the fan runs at the same speed regardless of switch position.

Bypassed the resistors today. It still run through the switch but now it operates on high. Ought to get me through ice now.

Whoa, I have more fan than I ever did. It was blowing the 10amp fuse pretty quick so I switched to a 15 seems to be holding. Nice to actually have some airflow.

I would suggest carrying a fire extinguisher with you. Preferably within arms reach, like maybe buckled into the passenger seat. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

It really is not the best idea to swap in a higher amperage fuse. You run the risk of smoking the wiring.
