I have an 1990 XS 2.8 v6 auto w/31x10.50x15 wheels. I'm waiting on a service manual to arrive for this rig and reading about the gen 1 & gen 2 troopers on here, and for curiosity sake what is the difference between the two ?

In short, just about everything. Engines are different. Manual Transmissions are the same. Automatics, I'm not sure. Rear axle/Front axle is the same. Rear suspension is different ... 1st Gen is leaf sprung, 2nd Gen is coil sprung. Different body ... pretty sure different frame.

Body Damage is Cool

gen 1 would be a leaf sprung trooper from 84-91 (but, that is even sometimes broken up into the 84, the 85-87, the late 87-91..........as there are motor etc differences. all have the old square body.)
Gen 2 would be 1992-2004...........(But those are really the same 92-5, 96-97 and then 98+ are different - Body, motor, rear axle, TOD)
but in general 1992 is the split.

Maybe this will help: 1st Gen Trooper body styleà up to 1991(Pictured is an early 'round headlight' model) 2nd Gen Trooper body styleà 1992-1997 2nd Gen Trooper body styleà 1998-2002 (< in the US) ![[Linked Image]](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/dc/Isuzu-Trooper.jpg/250px-Isuzu-Trooper.jpg) As noted above -- a number of mechanical changes occurred during the middle of (or as part of the change between) each of the body styles.
Six Isuzus, so far... still have three of them.
