K...#1 Yes. looked in "Search" engine.#2. Can I get a lil help? smile I am driving a great Trooper (besides the temporarily messed up alignment and really difficult gears that I'm told is a syncronizer problem...yeah. I'm clueless with that one) but my one issue is the lack of heat. It's not too bad. I live in Southern IL and we don't see temps drop too far...exluding this coming week of teens! But when I'm chilled to the bone, I'd like somethin better that 58 degrees!! I used to own an 84 Troop and that thing would swelter you till you had to open windows in the winter! I loved it. But this 91 has never gotten above 60. Unless it's summer...in which case it's Canadian made and has NO A/C (thanks Canada!) So. Please send some info. I've heard the relay problems, but that would make it fail completely right? And could it just be a filter issue? If so, what's my cure? Thanks in advance (or whatever part store you use!)Dana

I am having the same problem with my 86 trooper. I have replaced all the filters within the last two months and changed all the fluids. I don't know what might be wrong so I am in the same boat as you.

Just a thought,

Is there a possibility that the cable is stretched?
I had that problem on my '85 Toyota, so I would only get 70% of the heat. New cable, 100% heat kinda like living with the

TAKE A LOOK UNDER THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DASH AND FIND THE WATER CONTROL VLV ,IT IS UP ABOVE THE THROTTLE ASSY THERE IS A LITTLE PLASTIC ARM ON THE VLV ITSELF AND A SNAP IN STEEL ROD THAT GOES BACK TOWARD THE DASH BOARD , MOVE THE TEMP LEVER BACK AND FORTH AND MAKE CERTAIN THAT THE VLV IS OPENING ALL THE WAY ,, BEST PLACE TO START IS ON THE PASS SIDE OF THE HEATER BOX, BUT FIRST POP THE STEEL ROD OUT OF THE SMALL ARM AND JUST LET IT HANG LOOSE ,NOW GO TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HEATE BOX AND MOVE THE HTR LEVER BACK AND FORTH AND YOU WILL SEE IT MOVING A ANOTHER LEVER ON THE PASS SIDE TO THE RIHT AND DOWN BY THE SIDE OF THE RADIO AS YOU MOVE THE LEVER BACK AND FORTH WATCH AND MAKE CERTAIN THAT THE LEVER IS MOVING ALL THE WAY FORM ONE OF IT,S TRAVEL TO THE OTHER ,IF NOT REMOVE THE SMALL SNAP CLIP AND ADJUST THE CABLE UNTILL IT DOE,S , NOW WITH THAT ADJUSTED GO BACK TO THE OTHER SIDE AND MOVE THE LEVER ALL THE WAY TO THE HOT POSITION AND THEN PUSH THE LITTLE PLASTIC ARM ALL THE WAY FORWARD AND SNAP THE STEEL ROD BACK IN PLACE ,, OK NOW YOU WATER VLV IS ADJUSTED, NOW DO THE SAME ADJUSTMENT WITH THE BLEND DOOR LEVER BY MOVING IT BACK A ND FORTH UNTILL WHEN YOU HEAR THE DOOR SNAP SHUT IN THE HTR BOX AS , EASY WAY TO ADJUST THIS ONE IS TOO MOVE THE LEVER ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT AND LOOK AT THE CABLE AND LEVER ON THE DRV SIDE THE LITTLE TANG THAT THE CABLE GOES IN SHOULD BE POINTING AT ABOUT 7 OCLOCK TO HAVE IT ADJUSTED CORRECTLY, IF NOT REMOVE THE SNAP CLIP AROUND THE CABLE , MOVE THE LEVER ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT AND THE LEVER ALL THE WAY DOWN TO SEVEN OCLOCK AND THEN REPLACE THE CABLE SNAP AND SEE IF YOU HTR WORK ANY BETTER NOW , IF NOT YOU MAY AHVE A WATER BLOCKAGE IN ONE OF THE LINES .. I agree with the others: once you've established that the heater circuit is opened fully, check that thermostat! If it is missing or stuck open, the engine may not completely warm up. This effect is amplified in Winter, and if your driving is on the freeway. Is the heat guage working? Does it show that the engine is fully hot?

A thermostat / gasket will run you less than $10. A heater core replacement will drive a sane person crazy.

Good luck!

It would be even colder without the windshield!
