Okay im pulling the motor out of the 97 Auto Trooper and have run into a issue. I have everything unbolted or dissconnected, but can't seem to get it to come out. I can wiggle the engine quite easily when it's lifted, but it's not seperating from the tranny. I have about a inch and a half gap at the top or the tranny, but very little at the bottm.

Anyone know what im missing?

Body Damage is Cool
DID YOU REMOVE THE FRONT DUST SHIELD FROM THE FRONT OF THE TRANSMISSION CASE , IT IS BOLTED IN BETWEEN THE TRANS AND THE OILPAN , IF IT IS STILL THERE IT WILL HIT THE TORQUE CONVERTOR , GIVING YOU JUST ABOUT THE MOVEMENT YOU MENTIONED , ALL SO ARE THE CONVERTOR BOLTS REMOVED JERRY

Yes the dust shield is removed, however the Torque converter bolts are not. Jerry, how do you get access to remove the converter bolts and how many are there?

Thanks again for all the help!!

In the late model engines, there are 6 converter bolts.

With a flat wrench, you "can" get in to loosen them through
the dust shield hole.
However, that is a ROYAL PIA.

The best way to get access to the converter bolts is to look through the hole where the starter goes from the front end
of the engine, down low.
With a long extension and a swivel head, you can get right
in there. You'll need to use a pry bar or long screw
driver to keep the fly wheel from turning while you loosen
the bolts and you'll need it to rotate the flywheel to get
to the next bolt.

Thought I would update this for future searchers, There was 3 17mm Bolts that had to come off to unbolt the torque converter from the flywheel. There weren't the easliest to get off but none the less that was what it took.
