Ok, I just finished installing new Borla headers and exhaust on my 05' TJ. It is REALLY lacking in any performance gains and the muffler is barely louder than stock. What is going on?
Before this Jeep I had a 97' TJ with Borla headers and exhaust and there was a considerable gain in throttle response and HP. Also, the sound on my 97' was that deep throaty rumble you get from good exhaust.
What is going on?! Could the newer catylytic converter be more restrictive? I would like to straight pipe it but it has those pesky O2 sensors all over the place.
Please help, I emailed Borla and they gave me the typical corporate BS response and didn't answer one of my questions.
Thanks, Nick

My answer is geared toward your remark about the last ride being louder! That is about all you will get with that borla kit in the newer Jeeps. The exhaust system from the factory is so finely tuned to the engine that NOISE is about all you could possibley hope for.. The borla company does not answer your questions because they CANNOT! Not truthfully anyway. Big JIm <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" />

The sole reason I put headers on my old 97' was because the original manifold had 2 small cracks. After the install the difference was definantly noticeable, not just the sound but responsiveness... probally had more to do with the old manifold than new parts in heinsight now.
This go around I was expecting similar results. Either way, I still don't think I'm making power like I should. My throttle is really lagging alot. Maybe it has nothing to do with the exhaust at all but my older Jeep carried alot more umph! Too bad it was stolen and totaled.
Oh well, its life.. live and learn. won't be doing headers again anytime soon.
