Getting the Wheeling Fever
Thanks everyone for the info on tranny slippage, I have another question before i drain the fluid, and check the filter. is it possible that i am getting slippage because I used (synthetic ATF) I am considering going back to the original ATF can I do this without causing any harm to the seals? I would like to tighten up the bands as well but thought maybe I should go back to original ATF first and see if slippage goes away. I didn't own the jeep that long before I changed the tranny fluid and filter so I dont remember if it slipped prior to me changing the fluid.

Chrysler is adamant about using the proper fluid in their transmissions. If the synthetic fluid is approved by Chrysler for your trans. it's fine. If not, that could be your whole problem.

a synthetic trans fluid isnt making your tans slip, i have it in mine and it has been worry free, we have 7 other cars at our house that all has synthetic trans fluid and a lot of our friends are using sythentic trans fluid without a problem, a great synthetic ATF is the AMSOIL ATF, its approved by most car manufatures and exceeds all the tests done it on. it is so far the best ATF out there along with all their other line of products

Like I said, if it meets the needs, it's ok. Personally, I use the cheapest fluid that meets the requirements. You should be using ATF +4 I believe. Amsoil Universal ATF is supposed to work fine as a substitute(according to Amsoil and at least one poster here), I don't know about any other brands. All I know for sure is ATF +4 is especially formulated for late model Chrysler transmissions like yours. IMO it's best to use what the manufacturer recommends. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Well thanks for the info on the fluid, I still need to drain the fluid to check the bands so I guess I will go ahead and put back what the mfg requires for now I am using mobilone syn. atf I will seek out the amsoil brand name though thanks everyone.
