My Tj did a strange thing last night. I started it, and drove about a mile, and looked down at the dash to find my speedo and tach was sitting at zero, and the red "airbag" idiot light was on. It did this for maybe 2 or 3 miles, then I came to a stop light, and it started working again.
It was super cold, so the heater was on almost full blast, but other than that, nothing else was running. Lights were on (night). Never done it before now.
Anyone ever seen this?

Wow.. i had the exact same problem.. There is a ground behind your passenger side speaker. Check it.. Might have to re-run the wire or just strip and remount..

I went through all of the grounds found on alldatadiy.com, but there is a free site that BigJim has previously posted. Those are just as good. I just wasn't aware of them before i signed up for the alldatadiy site.

Thanks, man. Was it one of those grounding straps, or an actual wire?

Ground wire, but could be a strap. I know they made some changes from '97 to '98.

Mine did the same thing for a while. Then it stopped and hasn't done it for over a year. I never did figure it out, but I did replace the ground ribbon under the hood. (Don't recall that taht fixed it). Post if you figure it out.

it could be a simple as your battery cables needing cleaning. That is common and I just reaired a jeep doing the same thing(bad battery end) ALSO...battery may have been frozen,,,dont laugh, it happens.
