While everyone was watching "the big game" My bro and i were wrestling the almighty mua5 out of my bros new trooper.

We were told when he bought it that something was wrong with the transmission. When we drained the tranny, the oil smelled absolutely horrible, like it had never been changed, and there was a sliver of metal about the size of a finger nail clipping, attached to the drain plug from the tranny.

Once we got the tranny out, we noticed that the front input shaft that engages with the clutch has about a 1/4 inch or maybe a little more play side to side. is that normal? im gonna say its not..

Thanks for the help

Joel

The sliver of metal was probably from the steel drain plug vs. the aluminum case.

1/4" slop is not a good thing. If the oil smelled bad, was it gear oil? If so, the input bearing is long gone.

thats awesome, im so glad we get to deal with finding a whole new transmission!! we kinda knew we were going to have to do this.

Ive been calling all the junk yards, either they want like 2Gs for them, or they are 2wd for the rodeo. Its going to be tough to find i think.

Perhaps we can get it rebuilt at AAMCO?

If you can get it rebuilt for less than the '2Gs' they want for one at the junk yard, I'll be simultaneously shocked and amazed.
