building a safari rack basket for the truck, gonna be 40"x55" hopefully with 4 hellas up front - maybe with a fairing behind them for the wind.

not sure how to work the front with a fairing for the wind and have lights in front. can you do both?

anyone have pictures of safari rack with either a fairing or light bar? i have searched around, not too much to be found.

i'd like to see homemade full size ones vs westin or thule half roof ones..

I've seen lights mounted above the fairing. That the way I'll do it when I get that far.

I'll never DO it, but I always thought it might look cool to cut holes in my fairing and fit the lights flush with it..or maybe a little recessed with some of those wire covers.

Roll Me Over
Here is one I made out of 1/2" conduit.

IIRC, the total weight with lights and mounts for a shovel was about 30lbs.

I like to use galvanized so when it gets scratched you don't have to worry about it rusting. Of course you do have to watch the fumes, I use a large fan on high to keep from breathing the fumes when welding.

If you don't have a tube bender, you can either buy prebent corners, or for a little more than the cost of the corners, buy a conduit bender(about $25) and bend your own.

More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else.

From another board, some dude's homemade rack project -

"The dimensions are 7inches deep in the basket, from the top rail to the top of the bottom rail (about12 inches over all height at the top of the light hoop, no more parking garages for me!), 60 inches long overall (on the bottom, including the light shelf) 52 inches in length inside the basket, and 46 inches wide.

I used 1 inch square tubing, .090 thou. wall. The light protection hoop is 1/2 inch round bar, I made it a little high, incase I wanted to eventually go with larger lights."
