Hello all. I have always been into racing cars and I finally traded in my 03 WRX for one to get rid of the payments and also to get a JEEP. I know its not the most prestine but I picked up a 89' Jeep cherokee 4x4 with the inline six. The car is immaculate but there is one problem if I dont constantly give it gas it will die on me. I replaced the Idle Control Valve thinking that was the problem but its still pursisting..... does anyone else have any suggestions on what it could be???? any help would be greatly appreciated

Welcome. Have you checked for vaccum leaks? That would be my first step. What's the obd telling you?

Body Damage is Cool
Welcome to the board and the wonderful world of old Jeeps. My first step when buying a "new" old Jeep would be a complete tune up. I would inspect and replace as needed all wearing ignition parts, plugs, wires, cap, rotor. While I had the plugs out I would check compression to get an idea of engine condition just for kicks. I would change the air and fuel filter and if it's an automatic the filter and oil in the tranny along with both axles and T case to boot. I'd look the engine over real good for rotten/broken vacuum hoses and make sure the orifice in the pcv elbow is not clogged (check the manifold port too). THEN if it didn't run right I'd check for trouble codes and take it from there. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
