I got a new battery yesterday for the jeep....put it in and it was starting just fine.....then today I was working on it and after I was done I went to start it and I heard the starter click. Then there was no power (the lights wouldn't even come on). So I jumped it with my truck which tells me that all of my electrical connects are still in tact.....so I remove the cables and turn the jeep off.....then I go to start it again and I am showing 10 volts from the battery which is low to begin with but the lights are working.....so as I turn the key I hear the starter click again and then NOTHING.....0 volts no lights....WTF? So I jumped it again which worked......but I used to have bad connections at my ignition which as you may or may not know will stop a running vehicle dead in its tracks.......but it wouldn't be able to be jumped either....so I think it is just a bogus battery but I am only about 70% sure about that

What do the inside of the battery cables look like? When being JUMPED the clamps are on the outside of the cables. Installing a new battery should only be done after cleaning the inside of the cables. Do the cables have the original end clamps on them or them are those silly aftermarket thingys? AND do you have the red one on the + post and the black one on the - post? Big JIm <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" />

Also something to check is the fluid level of the battery. Yes it should be correct but we are human and we do make mistakes. Another thing like Big Jim said is to check your connections also make sure there is no paint between the ground and the mount it connects to can cause a problem. Something else to check if you have a DC Multimeter, start the Jeep, and see what the amps coming into the battery versus going out.

There's more to Jeep maintenance than just changing the battery if the rig don't start. You should have checked alternator output when you started the rig (should be around 14 volts). You check the battery leads and clean them, than test your negative lead to ensure you have a good ground. Simple to do,put one lead of the multimeter on the battery and the other where the cable attaches to the engine or frame, no voltage drop is allowed. Any voltage drop here changes the voltage going to the rig to start it or run the engine/lights etc. You can also have a bleed back of voltage to the rig all the time even if the key is off if the alternator has a problem. It usually also shows up while running though, as a decrease in alternator output.
