Just picked up Felix from the garage with the new rubber on. What a difference. I actually feel quite a bit higher when driving. I didn't think that from the inside it would be that noticeable. But adding 3 inches to the height made more difference than I woulda thought.

But the look of the truck has changed considerably. The holes on the fenders are now filled and look much more proportional than previously. It's more drastic than the pics show.

My RPM dropped from 3000 at 100kph to 2500 at 100kph. And in case you're wondering I used my GPS to pinpoint actual speed. It's accurate to within 1/10 kph. I suppose I could've actually done the math and figured that out but this is way more fun.

Here's some pics. Hard to take the pics with all this fresh snow, but you get the idea.

The top pic is the old General AT2 265 70 R15. Which, by the way, are Excellent tires. If they made them in a 33x10.5 I would now have those on. I highly recommend them for anyone looking for new tires.

The new tires in the bottom photo are Dunlop Radial Rover RVXT 33x10.5's. They'll look much better once the truck is clean. I forgot to tell the garage that I wanted the raised white lettering out so they put the black sidewall out. I may get them to flip them around yet. I like the look of the General's with the lettering out.

What do you guys think? Raised white lettering or Blackwall?

Nice tyres!

I've been looking around for 33x10.5, but I can only find 33x12.5, which are too fat and would rub. Besides, those 33x12.5 are very expensive at ~$150 a piece!

My personal preference is raised BLACK lettering.

Those look awesome - too bad my BFGs are pretty much brand new, otherwise I could justify the change!

Personally, I like the raised white sidewall.

I like the black sidewall out. the tireshop put the white letters out on my 285/75R16's and I don't like them, it looks too busy with my black wheels and the white letters dancing around.

It will be interesting to see how far you can go on a tank now.. Truck looks great with those tires.

New update on the tires.

Went to the Station in Strathmore for the Sunday brunch (HIGHLY recommended for anyone who likes to eat) and when we went to leave I had a flat! I initially assumed that the bead was not seated properly or that the valve stem was faulty but while I was filling it with air, after removing the tire in the parking lot and hauling it to the Fas Gas station, I watched a large bubble appear in the sidewall. So I have a faulty tire! What are the odds?

Then to top it off I could not remove the spare from the truck. The silly anti-theft lock would not come off! I had to drive home with the friends we went for brunch with and grab one of the spare wheels I have in the garage, drive back out to Strathmore mount it and drive home. I still can not remove the lock! Has anyone else had this problem? I took it off once when I first got the truck just to make sure it works and it was a PITA then but it did come off. In hindsight I should have just left it off. If I can get it off now I'll just toss it.

Any suggestions? IIRC all you do is insert the key and pull the lock off. Am I right?

You're right. With your black rims the white letters don't look proper. Mine, OTOH, are flashy rims and I think the white letters might help.

On another topic - where did you get the Safari rack? Did it come with the truck? I'm on the hunt for one right now. I'm hoping to have one before camping season.
