Need a Spot

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about putting a 4.0 Head on a 4.2 Block. Is it possible? If so what do I need? The reason I'm asking is my old 4.2 head off my 1987 Jeep Wrangler has cracked and can not be fixed. The last 2 heads I've order have been for a 4.0. I guess no one knows that theres a diffence between a 4.0 and a 4.2 I already know that the valve cover will need to be changed but I'm not sure the head will actually line up with the mounting holes on the head. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

there is a post in here with some sites on it about a head swap. It is titled engine and tranny swap. yes it can be done but you will need the wiring fuel injection and so on to do it.

I've done so much, with so little for so long i can practicly do anything with nothing

Do a little searching, here and with Google. Yes, it will fit, it's a great mod if you have the right casting number on the 4.0 head (some flow better than others). I did it on my 86 CJ and used my 4.2 intake and carb. Even without the MPI it made a huge difference for the better. Some waterjacket holes in the 4.0 head may have to be filled/plugged. There are plenty of online instructions on various methods. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
