Getting the Wheeling Fever
Noticed a slow drip of antifreeze today (85 22r) looks like its coming from behind the water pump pulley, so I am assuming its the pump going out. My clymer manual says to use a water resistant sealer on the new gaskets and on the pump bolt threads. Any suggestions or preferences as to what brand sealant?

Almost any RTV will work. I prefer the gray stuff myself. Other people like other kinds. You'll need to add sealer to the threads of the bolt that runs through the center of the pump. It'll be self explainatory when you remove it.

Also check here for the FSM. It helps. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Use a VERY THIN layer; otherwise you'll have goobers in the water jacket. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />

Also use a 1/4" drive rachet to reassemble, so you don't break off the studs. NO, no torque value.

The 3.0 pumps have a torque spec however.

Make sure you turn on the heater and leave the radiator cap off when you reservice the coolant, so as to burp ALL the air out.

Thanks for the tips, got it done last nite, letting the silicone set up today, and will refill the coolant tonite after work. Kewlynx, the FSM doesnt list a torque spec, but my Clymer manual does (8-11 ft/lbs). I am curious why the recomendation for sealer on the bolt threads, it does not appear any are actually in water passages, though they are near.

I was about to say I remember torquing mine to 9ft/lbs. Actually the torque specs I found are in the FSM under the "Standard Bolt Tightning Torque" section. You can find any bolts torque specs there.
