Getting the Wheeling Fever
Well about 2 days ago my brake light, battery light, and A/T light came on. It was really cold the night before. The truck started up fine but the radio would go off and on. then when i gave it a little gas, the lights would go off. then they would come back on when i let off the gas. So I went to autozone and they checked my battery. they said it was good but it had a low charge. they couldnt test my alternator at the time because the machine was broke. But today when i turned it off it wouldnt start back up and wouldnt go into neutral (automatic) to tow it. so WTF is the problem. Is it the alternator and why wont it go into N. thanks WOODY

Think you got problems, check my post below.....never mind that we are getting pounded with snow up here in the colonies. Anyways to me it sounds like your alt is gone and now your battery is dead. Not sure about going into neutral but does your vehicle require the brake pedal to be depressed before shifting to R and then to neutral.

I sent this link to Canuck too

http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/maintenance/alternator_brushes/

On the rig not going into N or starting; check two things;
One, the stop fuse; if you don't have that signal, you'd have to use the park override to put into neutral or park to start it.

Check the neutral switch adjustment on the tranny. I imagine with all the snow ppl are busting thru right now that a few things might be getting knocked loose or out of alignment.

We've got the service manuals stickyd here for your use. That one for the 93 is suitable; just be aware there is 22RE and 3.sl0w info, so mind what you're looking at.

im not saying that this is the problem, but with my truck, the positive cable running out of the battery to the fuse box mounted on the passenger side of the engine bay kept getting pulled out. i have all of the same symptoms, except the problem getting it in and out of park (mine is a manual). if i would shut it down, i wouldnt be able to start it back up. just tryin to give some possible help. good luck. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Easy/Free tech tip!!

Use a screwdriver to test the Alternator while it's running. Put the screwdriver on the back of the alternator. If the alt is charging it will act like a magnet and attract the screwdriver or any other metal object. It won't tell you exactly how much it's charging like a volt meter but it will let you know whether it's low or not charging at all.
