Does anyone have the link to the directions for this repair. I saw it here but when I tried a search I could not find it. Thanks for your help.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Did you get the Marlin ball and socket? I put that in my 4Runner and it was like shifting a BMW. (almost). Its pretty easy installation. You have to push that spring seat pretty hard and turn at the same time. After that its straightforward.

Are the directions for the w56 more or less the same as the ones posted above?

Yep, only differnce on the early ones is that 4 small bolts hold a plate down over the shifter instead of the push/twist retainer:

I recently replaced my old shifter seat with the marlin seat and although the shifting has improved somewaht 1st and 2nd gear are still a little stuborn (the shifter socket was still in great shape). Im not looking to spend a grand on overhauling my high mileage trans. or anything as it is still quite drivable, im just curious as to what would most likely be the culprit(s)? Worn synchros maybe?
