Gonna go ahead and rebuild my 2.6. Any suggestions on any upgrades to the motor other than rebore and over size rings and usual stuff. Anything to look for. I have never done a mitsi only small block chevy's.
What cam should I put in etc other than stock. I know i should go with the non jet valve assembly. Are there headers to be had for these beasts also.
Just gonna be a daily round town tripper. Not wanting to go turbo or anything just basic mods or upgrades.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I am kinda new to this also but I looked into different headers and from what i have seen in pictures and in posts is the Thorley THY-133Y is the way to go. The Thorley part number is DTE-133Y and the THY-133Y is the summit part number for the same thing. I own the pacesetter long tube header on mine and i do not like the fit as it want to rub on the bellhousing flange and doesnt seat very well on the no.4 cyl part of the head. Hope this helps.

Forget any upgrades, It's 109 HP engine. Spend your money on quality parts, OEM, clearwater head and machine shop work. Then your cooling system needs rebuilt, radiator rodded, fan clutch replaced, new water pump.

There is no reason to add any performance parts to a non-turbo 2.6. Stick to quality and OEM any you will be happy for miles and miles.

A good quality rebuild will net the most power. I would balance the rotating assembly (crank, rods, pistons with balancer and flywheel) and use a balance shaft eliminator kit. Your biggest power gain can come from the cylinder head. A good 3 (or 5) angle valve job with some mild bowl blending (nothing too crazy - a full port and polish is NOT necessary, just smooth out any casting flash/flaws on the intake and exhaust ports, give them an even looking finish). You could blueprint the engine (check/adjust deck height, CC the combustion chambers, make all cyl. volumes as even as possible) but it's a lot of work for only a 1-2% gain. ARP head studs and a good head gasket would be a worthwhile investment and refurb/replace the cooling system.

So would it be an assumption as being a good idea to go turbo. Is it hard to do with a lot to change. if i remember right there is a thread on going turbo. is it easy to find the parts to do it with.

Yes the Turbo Bible. A high quality rebuild will set you back a few grand, add another 1-2K for the turbo option.

You can get a way with a cheap rebuild, you can't get away with a cheap Turbo rebuild. It has to be done right or it won't last.

Show me any other mod than the turbo that gets you almost 100% increse in hp. You should see 206-210hp out of a stock 88-89 turbo setup on a stock turbo rebuild. Only diff's in turbo engine and carb is 7:1 pistons, piston oil squirters, and oil drain back tap on timing cover for turbo oil return, tap on thermostat neck for turbo cooling water, tap for turbo oil feed, and fitting on exh side steel water line for turbo cooling water return. Turbo wiring harness and ecu have only 7 connections to stock harness. Add fi fuel pump.

I was speaking of internals only. Good catch.
