I'm thinking of retiring my 300,000 mile 2.7 and am considering a 4.0 V-6 replacment. Anyone done this? Any info on doing that conversion into a '96 with 5-spd? Or even an automatic conversion maybe from a later model Taco?

The only person that I know of installing a 4.0 into something was Sundancer at Yotatech. He put it into a 93 mini truck. From what I remeber that was a big project and it required a bunch of mods. I think the easier route to go would be rebuild the 2.7 and drop one of the supercharger kits on it. In the end it would be less money and about the same performance.

Hi guys. I'm new to the board and I have a question about the 2.7. My son locked up the motor and I am having a hard time finding a replacement engine. If I upgrade to the V-6 will I need to replace the transmission also or can I just use an adapter for it? Thanks.

You're going to have to change the entire wiring harness inside the truck, the tranny, and many other parts. Check www.car-part.com for a new motor, 2rz's adn 3rz's are plentiful motors, you should be able to find one for 1000-1500 bucks with lower mileage. Greg
