Front diff chunks are easier/cheaper to come by. Again, Car-part.com. My neighbor with an '86 got one, and with the cash saved, put an aussie locker up there. Works great!

Getting the Wheeling Fever
well i went to car-part and noticed that the only 4.88 front diffs are all w/ auto disconnecting diffs. i'm old school like your neighbor with the 86, i have an 89. are there any issues with using a diff that was from an auto disconneting diff?

You can use the non-ADD side off your diff.

Check carefully when trying to find parts through car-part.com. In many of the categories items are listed that are not an exact match. I suspect that some of the items listed are V6 differentials that have not been verified as 4.88 ratio. -- Matt

Wheeler
i installed a 4.88 diff with ADD up front and in the back - I put a clamp around the mechanism that shifts it into 4wd to keep it in 4wd to make it like my original. Works great, lots of bottom end but it is making me want to go bigger since I have no top end with just 31s lol

For Sale or Trade
33" AT Winston Wheelers. Nearly New.
