Definitely do them together if you haven't done the belt lately...the timing belt drives the water pump so you will be right there. FWIW my water pump went out at 110K...

Oh, and if you do the timing belt, definitely also do the timing belt tensioner. They go out a lot, and again it is the same operation to get to it as with the water pump...I wish I had, now I gotta go back in just for the tensioner.

Definitely do the timing belt, water pump and tensioner all together. It can be a pain to get in there. Especially when the last person to do it (stealership) used king kong and a 20 ft breaker bar to torque the crankshaft pulley nut on (search my posts to find out why I say this).
Search the forum for helpful hints and tricks for changing all the stuff out. There has been quite alot written on it. Good Luck

How do you know if the tensioner is going bad? Does it make a bad squealing noise?

Take the tensioner out. Press it in by hand. If you can press it in, it's bad. If you have 120k on it, replace it, or you might be sorry a few months or years down the road. :-)

How do you know if the tensioner is going bad? Does it make a bad squealing noise? In my experience it makes or contributes to a clattering sound that sounds like any number of engine problems from lifter tick to piston slap/knock...but the defining characteristic is that the sound goes away at 2000 - 2500 rpm and above.

Thanks everyone for their in-put on the waterpump...today she went to the local shop....waterpump timeing kit..tranny mount and rr break line.....I am still an able to do the work myself.. still with a broken foot.....but I guess that I can justifiy the 800 buck that way for parts and work done...all in a day...ya this shop was the cheapest around.....others hit 1100-1500 to do the same....
