>>>*K...Not good, possibly not bad. Surfacing lightly should clean up the sealing ring, a bit of sanding roll work will take off an sharp edges that could lead to detonation. Pressure test to assure no cracks or breaks is a given.

Likely particles caused some valve/seat damage. That looks repairable to me.

Any damage to the pistons means they should be replaced. The risk of a piston ring land being compressed is large, since pistons are cheap I would hone the block and install new pistons and bearings if the bores check out....*EB

cool, I am going to pull the engine then. I need a rebuild kit now I guess, what wold be the best kit to just to crank it up one notch as far as HP. I want to keep it as stock as possible with a kick. I have never done a full rebuild before, but I have done top end rebuilds before. Any suggestions? motor only has 99k miles on it.

>>>*I would think that engine has a lot more miles on it than that, unless it has had a hard life. I have seen many with over 300K that look new inside.

Still, you have what is known as an upset, something went through the engine. That damage must be repaired.

These short blocks are easy, anyone can build one.The first step is to take her the rest of the way apart, measure or have a machine shop measure and advise. Then select a supplier, obtain the parts you need, and put the short block back together.

Unless you have some good hand tools and some specialized tools tucked away, the machine work and head are best left to a professional.

Easy fix, just keep everything clean.

The rule is if you won't eat off of it, then rewash it....*EB

When I heard it run when my buddy was driving it it sounded like it was way off as far as timing goes. before he got it had a broken timing chain and set with the valve cover off for a little over a year. hood closed of course. a friend of his installed the timing stuff and he ran it for like 8,000 miles. he said it lost alot of power one day driving it and was making noise so he had it towed home. I bought it for $250.00 - 93 toyota pickup. I have the carfax and according to it, it has 99,000 original miles. Thanks for all the help.
