Body Damage is Cool
I just bought a 94 Stealth for my wifes younger sister who lives with us. Actually is a real neat car. Of course it's a mitsu 3000gt clone as most of you know. My question is the car says 24 valve on the side windows but, The engines valve covers are virtually identical to my montero. The car also has one exhaust vs the duals on most. Cars runs (and looks real nice. Most 24 valve ones have different valve covers But I also am thinking of the 3000gt's-the valve covers on them say 24 valve and mitsubishi. Just trying to find out some info on this engine. I know the older 3.0's were non-interferance engines. Are the 24valve 3.0's still non-interfearing?

The Stealth did have the SOHC 12V available.
The 24V is DOHC.
The DOHC will crash with a belt failure.

I'm now sure this is a 12valve SOHC.

When the stealth trans gives up the ghost ( manual or auto ) swap the engine into the monty.

I am really pleased with my Stealth engine in my Raider.

I finally got to drive a recently rebuilt 90 Monty to compare them. Can't even feel what I gave up on the lower end, but can SURE feel the difference on the upper end.

Putting on 35-s this weekend & surely will feel a differende, but I'll just play the gears to make up for the difference. Love a stick.....

Did the exhaust manifolds bolt up to the OE exhaust downpipes?

Any major challenges in the swap?

Frank

Mitsu made both a 12v and 24v sohc motor, as well as the dohc 24v...

Yes, my '95 LS is a 3L 24valve SOHC.

An easy way to tell if it is 24valve, is that the spark plugs are in the center of the valve cover. Vs. the 12 valve where the plugs stick out of the side of the head (like an old american V8)

I remember seeing a 3000gt site somewhere that listed all of the engines and HP's by year for those vehicles.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Just like yankneck696, my 90 LS Auto also has received an Stealth engine. Was from a 94 model, and is 12v SOHC. I was going to try the Chrysler SOHC 3.0 from a Caravan, Dynasty, etc swap...but lucked into a good deal on the Stealth engine. Before that, I didn't know the SOHC 12 valve was available in the Stealth/3000GT either.

Haven't really gotten "heavy with the foot" as to it's performance...and have only clocked about 400 miles on the swap (mostly hauls my kids to & fro), but well-pleased with it thus far.

Correct, but the 3000Gt and Stealth never had the SOHC 24V.
The Diamante from 96 and later did as well as Eclipse and Galants from 2000 or so on.

I personally do not like the cams that are in the trucks, they rate the peak torque at a lower rpm than the cars, but the cars have equal or more torque everywhere. Including down low in the revs. The truck cams and intake do not give the power where it is needed for mountain passes especially with 4-5K of trailer on the back.
