Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have what feels like excessive freeplay in my steering wheel. The truck seems to track true at speed..doesn't pull to either direction, but the steering wheel seems to have a lot of play in it.Has anyone ever adjusted their steering box? How hard is it to check for excessive play in the steering box,and adjust it? I've done manual GM boxes before, but this would be the first power steering box I've done...Any ideas?...TIA...John

Ok biker get your boyfriend to sit in the seat and turn the wheel back and forth within the PLAY limits. Get under it and see what is moving and where the PLAY really is! Don't assume it is in the steering box. MAke sure just zackly what needs to be replaced or adjusted. MOST likely it ain't the box.

Uh..if I had a "boyfriend" I'd get him to do that.. : ...but my wife will have to do... ...I just got this today, and on the ride home I noticed that the steering wheel felt like it had alot of slack ,or play in it,before the wheels actually turned..The truck seemed to track just fine on the road..didn't seem to want to wander..With the engine off and just turning the wheel,I can get about a quarter turn in each direction, plus I can hear and feel a click..almost like one of the joints in the steering shaft was bad....I'll know more tomorrow when I can get a better look at things...Thanks,Big Jim...
