 Help on engine codes 25 and 26

OP
Need a Spot
|
My son from So. Cal visited and his
1993 4 runner, auto, 6 cyls has a check engine light
and the codes are 25 and 26 and it idles really rough.
I've been searching and can't find these codes here.
I will continue searching but if you can assist me in figuring out what's wrong, it'll be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My dad's 94 3.0L truck had the same codes. After a leak-down test, we found out a couple valves were burnt. Full top end rebuild and the truck's good as new. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

FWIW, it seems the #4 and #6 exhaust valves on these things burn up, due to the restriction of the crossover pipes; headers are a typical retrofit for this.
I don't have a 3.0 myself, but it seems this is what I've been seeing over time with these.

Thanks for the input, guys ...
I'll try this test after I replace the O2 sensor first,
clean the throttle body next, then TPS ...

Well, 02 sensors ain't cheap ( www.sparkplugs.com) Clean your t'body and make sure your TPS is set up properly FIRST, then go for the 02 sensor. ... makes sense  ... can I use Brakleen instead of carb cleaner ... to clean the throttle body ?

Thanks for the input. I just finished cleaning the TB and it cleared the problem. I can't believe it's this simple. I guess I need to incorporate this in my maintenance schedule.

... and CEL came on again
... but this time it is only code 25
