Usually when driving and hit a shallow 'pot hole' i hear a what sounds like a thin metal hitting thin metal. I've checked under the truck and I don't see anything that stand out.
This hasn't affected driveability, but I think something is going bad.
Is there a way to replicate the occurance with the front end raised ?
Open to any and all suggestions/ideas !

steering stops are grinding, they have plastic caps on the bolts that wear off..put some grease on them and see if it goes away, this usually happens in potholes when steering, if it doesnt do the trick...not sure what else to look at, noisy sway bar bushings.

Jake probably spotted the problem on the sway bar. Steering stops will make noise when the wheels are cranked, but I have had 2 front sway bar links for to pot, giving the same noise as you have. See if the links are sloppy or the actual bushings onthe frame are worn out.

the noise i'm hearing is only when i hit pot holes on a straight drive/slight turn of the steering wheel. I agree the full crank steering noise is different. will take a closer look at the bushings. tks !

I had a similar problem and the steering stops were the cause of mine. I only really needed a little grease to fix the problem. _________________ 2005 Toyota Tundra Accesorios - Tundra 4x2 06 Catalog by Toyota Motors

There's probably a dealership in your area that you can talk to. Or you can go on the Internet. I'd pick the latter option, as dealerships tend to be pushy about things like selling you accessories and insurance. _________________ 2005 Toyota Tundra Accesorios - Tundra 4x2 06 Catalog by Toyota Motors

Sway bar bushings are a good place to look. A blown shock maybe; are you still running the OEM screen door openers? Fatigued torsion bar? And are you certain it's coming out of the front and not transmitting up to the front - the rear leafs get creaky at a pretty young age and only get louder as time goes on.

Ahhh... I call it the Toyota Grunt. I recently fixed the noise on my truck by stopping by Less Schwab (my local tire store). It was the steering stops. They cary new bushings for them in stock as it is very common for them to wear out. They put them on my truck for free. If this is not your problem chances are your local tire store will perform a free inspection, if it is something simple or common they can probly tell you what it is.

Maybe look at the metal shielding around the cat or x-over pipe... I've had pebbles rattling around up in there before. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
