Body Damage is Cool
Well , the night before I head out on along road trip , and went to take the truck out again , was driving it earlier today , no problems with it.Turned it over and wouldn't start , so I makre sue its properly in park , still no start. So , I move the shift lever , and there is no resistance at all.I can actualy slide the shifter back and forth and nothing happens other than the shift lever moving.

Now , its dark out at this time , so I can't really look under there to see what happened.I am guessing 1 of 2 things , and am hoping for the easier fix.I can't remember the exact setup under there , so am hoping someone with a first gen trooper and auto tranny has a clue how the shift mechanism attaches to the tranny.

Here are the things I think might have happened , and hopefully someone can help figure out if this is right and if its something that happens frequently.

#1 The cotter pin that holds the shift mechanism to the tranny broke or fell off , causing the shift mechanism to pop off.I am leaning towards this as the truck was running fine untill I parked it at home this afternoon.I figure if it popped off , when I put the tranny in park , thats when the shift mechanism came off.If so , this is an easy fix , put on a new cotter pin.The thing is I can't remember if it was just a cotter pin holding it on or if there was a nut in there somewhere.

#2 Worst case scenario , the shift mechanism actually broke on me , although if it broke , how did I manage to get it home and put it back in park before I got out of the truck. If this is what it is , then I have a major problem. It would take time to track down another shifter peice , then have it welded for the body lift. And before anyone asks , I did have it welded by a professional welder before I put it in for the body lift , I wanted it done right , no guessing on it.

So , has anyone had this happen at all in a trooper , or actualy any Isuzu with an auto tranny? This is my priority tomorow as I am supposed to leave tomorow afternoon and I need this running big time.

Ok , got it fixed. The cotter pin in there was gone , and if its the same as the one closer to the shifter , its not that great of a style , so I replaced it with a good pin and works fine now.Just glad it was an easy fix and that something hadn't snapped on me.
