No secrets/tricks that I can think of. Only thing I suggest is to have a buddy around to juggle the trans. Makes it alot easier. Rob

I like to pull the t-case off first, makes the tranny lighter and more symmetrical so it is easier to work with. Also, need a long (30" or so) extension to get to the upper pair of bolts. You can lower the back end of the tranny a few inches for better access if you don't have a body lift.

Yeah, you do need a long extension or combination of many and a universal to get the angle you need (for the top bellhousing to engine bolts). Also, on the truck that I just did this job to, I found it helpful to have a buddy under the hood looking down the firewall to help guide you on the upper bolts which are really hard to see from down below. You want to make sure you're all the way seated on the bolt head so as not to mess it up when you go crankin on it.

i always take the 2 top bellhousing bolts thru the shifters inside the cab...get a 3ft extension with the 17mm socket on the nut..go inside the truck with the shifters removed and put a breaker bar on it...of in 2 minutes

use a 2x4 scrap to support the back of the motor against the cab, not against the valve cover. after you get the top two bolts loose. if you use a u joint on your extension wrap some tape around it so it dons't flop all over. dont forget the wires and speedo cable. if you have the fly wheel turned make sure they also turn the step on it. use brake cleaner on the bolts and blue lock tight.

Yep, that's the method I used. Recently I purchased a wobble extension, which limits travel to about the same amount as the tape does on the u-joint. Works great for this and other stuff.

Rent a good tranny jack. Use a ratchet strap to hold the trans to the jack.

Wobble socket/adapters are soo much better than ujoints. I just did a C6 tranny using one at work today out of one of these ![[Linked Image]](http://www.davin-inc.com/images/Tractor_Baggage_Tug_Model_MA-50_1978.jpg) Only way to go is using long extensions and a wobble

How about the flange that sits right over the no. 2 crossmember, it's impossible to get wrenches on the bolts!
Does the vehicle really need to be raised off the garage floor to drop the tranny?
