Getting the Wheeling Fever
I recently purchased two rear Jeep Axles and I have a question about one of them. The one axle is a 89YJ DANA 35 with 4.11 gears and the one in question is a DANA with the following on it: 02-01-97 (the year made) 47415 264 8 I no this axle has good 456 gears in it and that is the reason I purchased them.

I purchase them for $200.00 and the question I have is did they increase the axle size that year because the axle tube diameter is much larger and so are the brake drums and pads?

The coil spring brackets are already removed from the 97 and the leaf spring brackets are welded on the 97 and all I need to do is bolt it on.

Any info would be appreciated,

Josephelk

Body Damage is Cool
Sorry to say it, if upgrading was the plan, neither m35 axle is worth a plug nickle. No axle strength or diameter was changed between m35 in one year to the next, only some early 35s had no c-clips, they were not stronger though.

A m35 with 4.56 gears is only an upgrade if they were done correctly.

I agree the 35 is garbage but I don't plan on doing any heavy off-roading in this one, just hunting and gravel roads. I put the larger tires on it and I need the gears. I will in the future install the Ford 8.8 but for now I just want the gears and a little better braking with the 97 axle.

Rear brakes do very little towards stopping a vehicle... You will not see any difference in braking!!
