Need a Spot
I'm a newb and a first time poster. Anyone had any experience modifying a garden variety tent trailer? I'd like to take the small wheels off and go with a 15"rim & 29-30" tires. I'm fairly sure this will require a more subsatntial axle. My obvious goal here is to gain ground clearance. Any ideas or links to other sites dealing with this concept will be greatly appreciated!

We need to know what kind of axle is under it? If it's a torsion bar axle it's a lost cause without changing axles.

Body Damage is Cool
You may not be able to open up the wheelwells with out some major frame mods. May even be ahead if you build an off road capable frame and move the camper body over to it rather than tryting to beef up the stock frame. I had a Jayco and it's frame was pretty flimsey. And they are supposed to be one of the better tent campers.

But that a good out of the box idea you have there.

Search the Web for Outback trailerss or Off road trailers and you'll get an idea of how the Aussies are building theirs.
