I'm in the process of building a charger. It consists of a Honda 5.5hp engine driving a 60 amp. automotive alt. I'm going to be using it at the hunt camp as we run 12volt lighting etc just so we dont have listen to a constant roar of a 110v generator. Just interested to see if there is any interest for this kind of set up. If everything works as planned I might considered building units for others.

sounds interesting, 60amps, i could run our plasma cutter off it! might be worth it to price it all up and sit it on the table! could be promising for you if you are interested in mass producing them?

Honda makes a little 1000W generator that offers 12VDC and 110VAC. Really super quiet, cheap to run, a little pricy to get though. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I know the unit your talking about but the 12v side I think puts out 4-5 amps. It would take hours to charge up a car battery. My thinking is 12v 60 amps. to charge batteries/ boost etc. When I'm in the bush I like to run everything 12v on batteries and run a generator for a relatively short time to charge batteries. I just hate having to listen to a 110 v generator run all night.
