Getting the Wheeling Fever

hey guys,
After adding new 33" tires (which are a huge improvement), I cranked my front torsion bars up 2" and took the upper bump stops out. After I cranked the bars, the ride in front is very hard. I knew that the ride would be come stiffer due to the higher spring rate, but this is much, much stiffer over stock. Bumps that I could barely feel before on the trail are almost teeth jarring.
I went to the local wheeling spot and the front didn't seem to travel at all. Afterwards I went to a parking lot with large speed bumps, the front seems to go up and over them with out any travel. I think the truck was trying to jump the bump.
Is this a result of the increased spring rate in the torsion bar? Or is this more of a result due to the sway bar being cranked down a few inches? Or am I missing something else?
Thanks for comments and thoughts,
Chris

I think you either cranked them too far or you did not get out all the bumpstops. There are 4 you need to take out or cut. You probably only got 2. They are on the front of the arm and the rear of the arm.

Yep. Uncrank them some. You're going to have to get in and out a bunch, but you will eventually be able to tell where you need to have them.
Be sure to get an alignment afterwards also.

I never really have understood why the tbars make the ride rougher when you crank them unless of course you push up against the bumpstops. Mine did not really seem to get any harsher of a ride. They are not preloaded. You are just changing where they are sitting as if you put a spacer on a coil spring. Or a lift block on a leafspring.

Speaking of torsion bars... I've been meaning to ask this. But to make it simple, how can someone "loosen" the front suspension if they have the bars cranked? I know when you crank them it makes it stiffer. Does re-indexing them put it back at factory "softness" or is re-indexing something totally different?

Although your not loading the spring any more by cranking them, you change the geometry of the control arms.

On a 94SR you should not have to crank your torsion bars too much to fit 33s, if you want lift you should just install a 2" BL you won't have to crank you TB at all! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

I only had slight rubbing on the inside of the fender flare when the front wheel was stuffed and turned. Just need to trim it a little bit. =) I wanted to gain a little distance between the skid plate and the ground. I was thinking of the Roger Brown BL I'm still thinking about it.
